This is a mild ale style beer brewed with East Anglian pale ale and Crystal malted barley and Boadicea hops, dark red brown in colour with an aroma of caramel and nutty chocolate. The toffee and chocolate also come through on the palette along with hints of red fruits, all balanced by a smooth bitterness. A traditional speciality winter warmer. An old recipe dating back to 1890. Flavour of fruit, malt and roast grain, with a hint of caramel. Adnams Old Ale is a rare treat.

Bishop's Finger

Bishop's Finger

Bishops Finger Kentish Strong Ale is brewed by Britain’s oldest brewer - Shepherd Neame, an independent family brewery founded in the heart of East Kent’s hop country at Faversham in 1698.

Bishops Finger is hand-crafted, using tried and tested skills developed over three centuries.

The Bishops Finger Charter decrees that it is brewed only on Fridays and then only by the Head Brewer using an antique Russian teak mash tun. He takes mineral water from the brewery's own 200 ft deep artesian well and adds Kentish malt from Denne Hill Farm and East Kent Goldings hops.

Bishops Finger is Britain’s most distinctive premium ale, with an intense taste that is more challenging than other brands.

Brakspear Oxford Gold Organic Beer

ABV: 4.0%

Tasting note

Brakspear Oxford Gold is a remarkably zesty brew, with fresh, citrussy aromas and a firm, fruity flavour. Pale ale malts provide the beer with its gold-gilt shimmer, spruced by a hatful of crystal malts to give body, texture and a delicate honey’d wrap.

Organic Target hops deliver a shamelessly fresh perfume, whilst late hopping with organic Goldings and fermentation by our Brakspear yeasts give Brakspear Oxford Gold a fabulous, fruity finish.

This beer is a perfect partner for fish dishes, shellfish, chicken or salads.

Crop Circle (ABV 4.2%)
A very clean, flaxen-coloured beer with wonderful thirst-quenching properties. The subtle blend of aroma and bittering hops give a crispness on the tongue which is delicately fruity, giving way to some dryness. The inclusion of flaked maize in the grist subtlely hints at crisp corn flavours.

Davenport's Fox's Nob

Davenport's Fox's Nob

Foxes used to frequent the grounds of Highgate Brewery, and so it seemed only appropriate to name a beer after them, or their head anyway, nob being the Old English word for head.

Fox's Nob pours a dark gold/amber colour, and gives off a very odd aroma - slightly floral and quite fruity, red apples and berries perhaps. The flavour is very much more of that odd fruitiness, not citrus, quite sweetish with what tastes like elderflower in there, although it's not listed as an ingredient. With a lingering and slightly unpleasant dry finish the whole taste experience was not one I can say I enjoyed so not likely to visit again.

Hound Dog, 4%,

Celebrate the arrival of spring with this light and thirst-quenching dark-gold bitter that first emerged in 1999. The hops are English Goldings and Slovenian Styrian Goldings, both of which offer distinctive citrus fruit notes. The nose pulsates with a surge of lemon and lime, while there is a light touch of toffee and vanilla on the palate followed by an exquisite balance of fruity hoppiness and malt on the long bittersweet finish. Try with a grilled white fish such as haddock or fish and chips.
